A transparent look at materials, sourcing, and our long‑term vision

Paulownia is the strongest lightweight wood used in surfboard construction. Its strength‑to‑weight ratio, natural water resistance, and durability make it an exceptional material but plantation‑grown paulownia isn’t widely available in the United States. That limited access is the first piece of the pricing puzzle.

To get the quality we need, we import paulownia lumber directly from Spain. Our supplier is also a surfboard builder, which means they understand the demands of performance shapes. They use a CO₂ laser CNC to cut our internal skeletons at the source, giving us precise, consistent components and reducing waste.

The cost for wood and CNC work typically ranges from 272–372 euros, or $315–$430 per board before it even reaches us. Once we add shipping across the Atlantic and tariffs, the total material cost becomes three to four times higher than EPS or PU foam.

We know this places us in a niche market. You can buy a high‑performance foam board for a fraction of the cost, and for many surfers, that’s the right choice. But our mission goes beyond building wooden boards.

Our long‑term vision is to help bring community back to surfing. Our wood kits allow anyone experienced builders or total beginners to craft their own surfboard. Building something with your own hands and then riding it creates a connection to the craft, the ocean, and the culture that’s hard to replicate. It turns surfing into a shared experience rather than a disposable one.

Our pricing reflects the reality of sourcing rare, high quality materials and building boards with intention. As we continue refining our shapes and processes, we’re committed to offering high‑performance wooden boards that last a lifetime while fostering a community of makers, surfers, and ocean minded creators.
